Cotter Brobson welcomes Rachel Wolfgang to the team

This summer, Cotter Brobson Communications welcomes Rachel Wolfgang to our team! Rachel joins us as a part-time associate and will provide administrative support to the firm, as well as social media moderation and content development for our clients.

I couldn’t be happier having Rachel aboard. Things have been blessedly busy and we need an extra set of hands! Rachel is a recent graduate of Ithaca College with a degree in journalism. She gained some direct PR experience a few summers ago as an intern with Highmark Health’s communications team and has a wicked smart head on her shoulders. Our clients will appreciate her professionalism and commitment to their missions, as well as her finely tuned writing skills, journalistic-approach to issues and fresh eye toward the development of social media content.

Truth is, I’ve known Rachel a LONG time. Even from a young age, she always showed a kind of maturity and appreciation for the world around her. She has a zest for living that is a credit to her family, a way with words that has been developed through a love of reading and commitment to writing, and an enthusiasm for learning that will be a net-plus for the work Cotter Brobson does on behalf of its clients. I believe you will get that same sense soon enough when she answers the phone, accompanies me to strategy sessions or is assigned a writing project on behalf of your team.

So what has Rachel been doing before joining us? As an intern at Highmark Health, Rachel supported eight full-time members of the communications team, including the Chief Communications Officer of the company. During her four-month internship for this large, integrated healthcare delivery system with insurance and healthcare subsidiaries in Pittsburgh, she wrote press releases, generated content for senior markets, proofread marketing and sales materials, and gathered research on competitors. Rachel may not have known much about healthcare before her internship, but once she completed her time with the Highmark team, she had gained a deeper understanding of the complexity of healthcare and healthcare delivery systems in the United States and Pennsylvania.

Rachel likes learning new things, which is what lead her to earn her Bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. While completing her degree, she worked at the Ithaca College Library and at her college newspaper, The Ithacan. After starting out as a copy editor, Rachel quickly transitioned to the roles of Chief Copy Editor and Managing Editor. It was during her time at The Ithacan that Rachel fully realized her passion for editorial and content generation. As managing editor, she supported the editor-in-chief and led an editorial staff of 18 to receive the Golden Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York City.

Her passion for storytelling and editorial was developed by a love of reading and interest in the world around her. Rachel most recently read On Beauty by Zadie Smith and when her nose isn’t in a book, Rachel enjoys hiking the outdoors and loves to listen to podcasts when she is on the go.

I am sure it won’t be long before you have the chance to meet or talk with Rachel. Next time we are together by phone, Zoom or in person, be sure to say, “Hello!”
